Last Minute Gift Ideas for Festive Visitors

Published by Sarah Hughes on

We’ve all been there so don’t pretend you haven’t! A friend pops round for a Christmas catch-up and eek… they just happen to have brought you a gift.

There’s nothing more embarrassing than having nothing to give in return is there? I’ve learned my lesson the hard way and now I always ensure I have some last minute gifts wrapped up and ready. It’s important when it comes to last minute gifts that they’re pretty generic; things that would suit most people. While the men in your life might be harder to second guess, I’ve compiled a list here of some last minute gift ideas that your gal pals are sure to love.

I recently discovered the gorgeous range of scented candles by Arran. They also make beautiful fragrances, bath and body products and have a mens range too. I’m stocking up on a few bits and really hoping I don’t end up having to give them away…

There’s something so blissfully ‘back-to-school’ about a new notebook and pen isn’t there?

Pen Heaven, founded in 2008, offer a comprehensive range of writing instruments and leather goods with in-house engraving and embossing. Specialists in classic brands such as Parker, Cross and Lamy, Pen Heaven also boast some more unusual and hard-to-find items such as the Japanese hand painted Platinum range, Italian calligraphy sets and the design focused Worther brand. This beautiful baby pink number with matching rose gold pen will be a hit with any last minute gift recipients.

Not your average Christmas gift I grant you, but if you have friends who like the idea of gifts that give back; then how about gifting some reusable sanitary pads. For every pack of Trade To Aid pads you buy, they donate a pack to someone in need of a better period. Plus, Trade To Aid is a social business so all their profits go to funding menstrual education. A practical present with a conscience!

You absolutely cannot go wrong with a book as a last minute christmas gift! Be sure to pop a post-it note on them if they’re pre-wrapped… you don’t want to give a murder mystery to your rom-com friend or vice versa! Some great reads I’ve come across recently include I Can’t Tell You Why and Bring Me To Life both written by Elaine Robertson North. If you’re looking for gripping storylines and romance without too much fluff, you’ll love these easy to read, hard to put down books.

For Mums of young children, a great book to gift is This Mum Malarkey by Siobhan Butel. With the byline; Parenting Tales from the Woefully Unprepared and Perpetually Overwhelmed , this book really does what it says on the tin! If you have friends who are knee deep in the travails of parenting, they’ll love this funny book which reassures us that we’re all in it together.

For friends who love their dog more than any human in their life; why not stock up on a gorgeous hamper of doggy treats from Laughing Dog’s brand new festive range .Featuring macaroons, festive paws, treat wreaths and bones, Laughing Dog is a premium dog food brand delivering naturally wholesome and high quality presents to pooches this winter.

Surefire brownie points for you by treating their best furry friend.

Who doesn’t love a sock at Christmas? And a festive sock is an even bigger treat! Burlington have a huge range of fun designs and some thicker snuggly boot socks which I plan to layer up under my wellies on a boxing day walk.

Finally, if you fancy buying in some higher price point items in the desperate hope that you won’t have to gift them to anybody… check out the stunning collection from Daisy London. Beautiful necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings in gold and silver which can be worn individually or layered for a super luxe effect.

They have 20% off their jewellery between 21st and 28th November.
