Brilliant gifts for brilliant teachers

Published by Editorial team on

After another frankly bonkers school year draws to a close, lots of us are looking for extra special gifts for teachers this month.

The last two years have seen teachers go above and beyond the call of duty. Teaching from their kitchens and their classrooms, online and in person. They’ve been the reassuring constant in our children’s lives, no matter what new government guidelines were introduced overnight with no warning. Over the pandemic years especially, their capacity to turn up every morning, at the school gates or on zoom, with a smile on their face, amazed all of us frustrated (and pretty crap) homeschool parent-teachers. Gift ideas for teachers are on our agenda at this time every year, but this July it seems more important than ever to show how much we appreciate them!

I’ve heard stories that in some schools buying gifts for teachers has become a competitive sport. John Lewis vouchers being outdone by Spa days, Spa days being outdone by Flying lessons… seriously. But having taught in schools myself for many years, I can assure you it’s the small, personal gifts that teachers will adore and remember for years to come.

With that in mind, check out my top gifts for teachers; whatever your budget.

  • Who doesn’t love a box of brownies? You could order a box to be delivered to school for them (handy if you’re stuck in Covid isolation!), or buy some from a local cake shop. It’ll be sure to make the last day of term even sweeter.
  • I doubt teachers have had much chance to chill with a book this year, so a voucher for Waterstones might be the perfect gift. This is a great choice for smaller budgets as vouchers are available from a tenner upwards.
  • Struggling to find a gift for a young, trendy teacher? You can’t go wrong with a good old ASOS voucher. Again they’re available from just a tenner, but this is a good one for a class collection too.
  • For a truly unique gift have a look at Down Your High Street, which has a huge range of gifts from independent retailers. For the animal-loving teacher how about buying an Adopt a Sloth prezzie. Or if your teacher really is out of this world, treating them to the Name a Star gift would be the perfect suprise.
  • Is your kids teacher a fanatical hobbyist. A great gift for teachers of all ages is subscription to a magazine. Take your pick from caravans, cars, sport, interior design… whatever floats teach’s boat!
  • If you’re doing a class collection and fancy splashing out, how about gifting your teacher a well earned bottle of Fizz. The Drink Shop have a huge range of wines and champagnes and some come in gift sets with flutes…meaning they can crack it open in the staffroom as soon as that last day bell rings.
  • Lots of teachers love to receive an ethical or a charity gift. Check out this article for top tips on gorgeous gifts that give back.
  • Finally, if you want something out of the ordinary, Rockett St George has a huge range of funky, kooky (sometimes sweary) gifts for teachers with a sense of humour. The ‘Naughty Corner‘ sign is my personal favourite… might actually get one for my house!
